Yashboub Oud specializes in natural oud and rare oud
In this article, we talk about the origin of natural oud and how to extract oud and oud oil.
We will also talk about the method of classifying natural oud and the classification of oud oils.
Because the following article aims to introduce the oud in a simple and brief way
We can start with the types of natural oud trees.
The scientific name for the agarwood tree is Aquilaria. Many species, up to 24, are descended from the Aquilaria tree, distributed among the agarwood-producing countries.
Since the agarwood tree requires a rainforest environment, we can connect its locations to the environment.
Agarwood trees produce oud after their trunks are naturally scratched or injured by wind and storms, or by wild animals. Once the agarwood tree is injured, bacteria enter and attack it. The tree then secretes a dark, gummy substance, scientifically known as resin, also known as aloe. This gummy substance traps bacteria and acts similarly to white blood cells in the human body. By mixing this substance with the fibers of the agarwood tree and remaining within the tree for many years, natural oud is produced. Since naturally infected trees are rare in the forests, local people deliberately infect agarwood trees to stimulate them to produce oud, and then wait years for the oud harvest.
After harvesting the agarwood trees, the agarwood wood is cleaned, as it contains white, healthy wood that does not contain agarwood. It may also contain larvae, insects, and insect nests that have attacked the tree and nested inside it. This is also one of the factors that stimulate the tree to produce agarwood.
After eight cleaning operations, the oud is spread out in the air to dry, revealing the differences in quality and the amount of oud oil present. The natural oud is then shipped from its home country to Saudi Arabia to be sold to customers in its final form. Due to the lack of experience among many consumers and oud traders, many locals in oud-producing countries adulterate oud in various ways to make money. This is where the expertise of a Saudi oud trader comes in. He can detect adulterated oud and ensure that the product sold is completely flawless and free of fraud.
For oud oil, oud oil factories collect wood removed from the natural oud tree, grind it, ferment it with water, cook it, and distill it to extract the remaining oud. The quality of natural oud oil varies depending on the quality of the distilled wood and the distillation expertise of the factory.
